Nourishing Communities

Nourishing Communities

Nourishing Communities is a free Eat and Learn Program that blends food related educational topics with practical food demonstrations. Each session is delivered by a local nutritionist within residential buildings throughout Mississauga.

Nourishing Communities is a 10 session program that include topics that are specific to safe food preparation and storage, reading and understanding food labels, minimizing food waste, cooking with a budget, media and advertising, and the nutritional requirements for children; adults and seniors. Discussion concludes each topic session and the food demonstration begins with everyone participating in some area of the preparation. After the recipe has been prepared everyone sits together to enjoy what has been made. It is truly a joyous time and many laughs and stories are shared by everyone!!

Each session, participants receive a recipe bag filled with fresh and dried ingredients to encourage sharing the recipe with friends and family members at home. And every session concludes with raffles and games for prizes of food baskets, home essentials and other prizes. It is always a fun and exciting way to end the session!!

January 2020 Nourishing Communities saw the first of the sessions roll out and has since completed its first building! 2 additional buildings are also currently participating with three more prepared to begin in the Spring session.

April 2020 Nourishing Communities pivoted to an online format of programming and it has been very successful. Participants continue to learn from local nutritionists about interesting topics and delicious recipes. This program is open to all residents because of the online format and we look forward to hearing from you all during our in class discussions
