The Handy Women 101 is a home repair course to educate women on home improvements, small household repairs and other DIY minor projects as well as general safety issues around homes.
The course is a weekly free online drop in two hours session which will be demonstrations by various professionals. There will be discussions, feedback and Q&A sessions so that attendances can acquire simple home repair knowledge in order to be independent and reduce repair costs. In addition, the course will give tips and resources to guide women in hiring contractors in the future. The following topics will be presented by professionals: 1. Interior Repairs & Decorations, 2. Woodwork Repairs and Maintenance, 3. Painting & Decorations, 4.Plumbing Repairs and 5. Electric Repairs. We will also introduce different repair tools and other safety measures when carrying out home repairs during the course. Additional trade resources/websites will be presented to attendances.
Fire department public officer will also participate in the workshops to give demonstrations on general fire safety measures inside the house.
No prior knowledge in home repairs is required for this course and we hope by the end of 30 weeks (June 2022-March 2023), attendees will gain confidence in carrying repairs at home by themselves.
